Wow - what a difference 24 hours makes!!! Jer had his feeding tube and gastric tube removed today. He can feed himself (jello and mashed potatoes). He is maintaining his oxygen saturation with just a little assistance from an O2 cannula. He finally started getting some quality sleep and it's working wonders with his mental clarity. He did have to have a halo put on today to stabilize his skull fracture - but they did the procedure bedside (no OR) and he tolerated it very well. It will need to stay on anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months - just depends on how quickly his bones heal. But if history has shown us anything - it's that Jer is strong as a mountain man and that combined with the continued prayers of his friends - I'm sure he'll continue to amaze the doctors with his recovery. The halo contraption looks pretty barbaric - so no Frankenstein jokes OK! It's amazing at how well he's adapted to it - he even curled up on his side and took a 3 hour nap right after they put it on!
We are pretty sure he will be moved out of ICU tomorrow or the next day. His 43rd birthday is Thursday - so we'd love to have him in a regular room by then. We know to expect good days and bad days - so please continue to check in with the family to see if he is up for visitors.
Again we give thanks and praise to God for His faithfulness and abundant blessings He has showed on our family and especially the care He has orchestrated for Jerry. Humbled and overwhelmed by His love and yours - the Gallimores.

I miss you so much Baby Boy. This ol' head cold is a dilly and I sure don't think you or Jody, Jamie or Dad need to have me spread it to them, but I am really getting antsy to be with you. You continue to amaze us, sweet man. I'm sure this is one time in your life you will not hear your Dad say his years old line: "Oh, hell, I've had worse spots on my eye." :) Somehow, he has found this a difficult time to find his incorrigible sense of humor. Geesh! Who would think, huh? :) At the rate you're going, we will have you out, through rehab, and back home in Iowa with your beloved Jody. Everybody in Tucson (all one million plus) have called or written emails to send their love and support and cheering you on. You can see when you can access your laptop just what a studly dude you are! Your fans are legion. Of course, I just think they have very good sense. I am so ticked I will not make it for your birthday, sweetie, but we will do it up right for you and Jodie both when we get you out of that place. Meanwhile I will continue to spend my days giving thanks that you are here to celebrate another birthday with us. You are amazing and so is our Savior whose hand has rested securely throughout this entire experience. Just lay back and contemplate the miracles he has caused every day since this happened and your healing will speed up even more, sweetie pie. See you in a couple of days, baby.

I was so happy to find out yesterday that you will be going home. You are doing so well & I thank God each day for the progress you have made. Keep up the good work & you'll be back to normal in no time. God has blessed you & your family. Its times like this that we realize just how short life can be. I am just so happy for all of you. I had forgotten just how many miracles there are to be had if we just pray. I'm not likely to forget this any time soon. I can hardly wait to be able to go & get those cannolis. God bless you.
ReplyDeleteLove you lots,
Sandy
